Base Camp #1

No, not Mt Everest or Mt Kilimanjaro.

I did the first leg of the huge road trip I am undertaking with my best friend.

Step 1: Drive the 711 miles to his apartment.

Today is rest and refit day. We have a lot of gear to get organized in the truck and provisions to acquire.

Tomorrow is the second leg and the most fun part. Head North and West through Wisconsin and Minnesota into the Northern Great Plains.

I'm pretty tired from the first leg, but I have had a lot of time behind the wheel to think. Though I feel grateful to my wonderful better half for letting me undertake such an ambitious road trip and to my best friend for being crazy enough to want to go. I am a lucky guy indeed. My career transition has not gone to any plan and going off on a road trip to alleviate my chronic case of wanderlust helps. Christiane thinks I need my batteries recharged and refocus. There have been some real energy draining obstacles over the past few years, but her love and support and the friendship of some really great friends have done a lot for me.

So far I have driven through two snow showers in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania and seen a farmhouse on fire. This will be an interesting trip indeed.
