Urbex: Unique Hydrant

While at the Alpha Manufacturing Company, I noticed a very unique fire hydrant. The design was clearly very old and not a commonly seen.

I doubt the fire main is active. Too bad it most likely will not be saved.

Did it have any writing on it? It looks very old! Late 1800- early 1900. Never saw ornate decoration on one.

It did around the top. I saw no dates or Mfg. company. I intend to go back at some point. I will take a closer look.

The writing around the top was to turn right to turn on water so something to that effect.

What a great fire hydrant. I tried to match it to a manufacturer just using the word "valve" I could make out from your picture at firehydrant.org with no luck. I collect these things (it's a long story!) and this looks to be quite a find... hope it has not been scrapped out...

It is from around 1890. As far as I know, it is still there.
